As part of its masterplan for the redevelopment of Chinatown, Singapore as recommended the contruction of a number of boutique hotels and the Royal Peacock is not meant to function like a typical hotel. They are ``quinessentially modernist spaces, innovations of a modern tourism industry, to give the visitor an experience of ``Old Chinatown``.

Unique touches include a sleigh bed and an antique gilt-framed mirror, as well as plush purple carpets red walls, rich floral fabrics reminiscent of a Baroque painting and red curtains with tassels. Standard rooms has no windows.
