The successors were the Grimaldi family who remained the owners for more than 2 centuries from half 1500 and improved on the structure of the building with a lot of renovation works. Palazzo San Basso was thee original name of that period but the actual name of Palazzo Dona arrived only with the Dona family when it became the residence of the Doges Dona. The main fa?ade is enriched by 2 huge quadrifore typical Venetian windows with 4 arches overlooking the Rio of Palazzo Ducale, the canal of famous Bridge of Sighs.
